A two-pound bag of sliced almonds. Slicing is tedious and slightly hazardous to do by hand in quantity, which is the case for buying them ready-cut. They toast quickly in a dry pan for salads, granola, rice dishes and baking, where whole almonds would be too coarse. Note that sliced nuts have far more surface area exposed to air than whole ones and stale faster, so buy this size only if you use them regularly.
