The Hyper version of the Cloudmonster adds a stiffer plate through the midsole, which is what separates performance running shoes from cushioned trainers: the plate stores and returns energy at toe-off, producing a propulsive feel at faster paces. That benefit only appears at speed, so plated shoes are worth the premium for tempo runs and races rather than easy miles.
